About JOANNA…

I am originally from Vancouver, BC, Canada, but in 1976, I moved to Merida, Yucatan, Mexico, my husband’s home town. Jorge and I raised our family in Merida, and we founded Tecnologia Turistica Total ( http://tttac.com/ ), a tourism, languages and multimedia college for local and international learners. Now that we have retired, we have more time for travel and spending time with our family &  friends. I also enjoy writing, reading, and painting. Change  challenges me to look at life from a different perspective – it shakes me up and replenishes my energy.

MAGIC MADE IN MEXICO

JOANNA'S BOOKS
Magic Made in Mexico

About MAGIC MADE IN MEXICO

MAGIC MADE IN MEXICO is written for international residents in this country… especially the recently arrived. In the first part of the book, you will read about how I met the man who would become my husband and how I moved to México to be with him. Now, after more than 40 years, we both feel amazed by the adventures we’ve had, and the opportunities. But I certainly remember the homesickness and cultural clashes along the way… The second section of the book explains and addresses much of the confusion you must have about the cultural differences you are finding in your new home. Finally, in Part Three, you’ll read a short synopsis of Mexico’s historical events… from pre-Columbian times to the  modern-day Republic.

I feel sure that the insights you’ll gain from MAGIC MADE IN MEXICO will help to validate your own concerns and questions, allowing you to best appreciate and fully enjoy this amazing corner of the world. Available on Amazon:   https://www.amazon.es/Magic-Made-Mexico-Live-Dream/dp/0981663729

CIRCLES – A Family Memoir

CIRCLES - A Family Memoir

About CIRCLES

Circles is a family memoir – a collection of stories about my aunt,  Gisèle van Waterschoot van der Gracht – as told to me by my father, other relatives, and her closest friends.

Aunt Gisèle and the people she hid in her apartment endured much hardship during World War II. Shortly after the liberation of Amsterdam by the Allied Forces, she met her cousin John, a private in the Canadian Army. He brought them food, and a lifelong friendship ensued. Gisèle became well-known as a painter and stained-glass artist. She travelled extensively and never allowed difficulty to stand in the way of what she felt needed to be done.

Her bravery during World War II was formally recognized by the Netherlands, Germany and Israel. She remained a curious, thoughtful, and whimsical person, until her death in 2013 at the age of 100. THE WOMAN WHO WANTED THE MOON

About THE WOMAN WHO WANTED THE MOON

THE WOMAN WHO WANTED THE MOON unfolds in the summer of 1968 when university students took to the streets of Mexico City. Waving placards and banners, they called for change. They wanted their voices to be heard. The government wanted to stop the movement and on October 2nd, the army received orders to open fire on a crowd of 10,000 gathered at the Plaza of Three Cultures in Tlatelolco, a public housing complex, not far from the capital city’s downtown area. In the aftermath, former lovers Amalia Vasquez and Alejandro Mendez meet again and rekindle their romance – a spontaneous act with lifelong repercussions. The personal, professional and political challenges the couple encounter over the ensuing 20 year period, mirror those of the country. But, THIS is not a dark story – it celebrates of Mexican passion, spirituality, resourcefulness, and family loyalty.
